AOP Health Wins Gold at the WKO Export Awards

June 1st 2026
Vienna-Based Innovation as an Economic Driver

Vienna, 01.06.2026. AOP Health has received a major recognition: the pharmaceutical company won first place at the 2026 WKO Export Awards. The award honors the international success of a company founded in Vienna 30 years ago with the aim of researching and developing therapies for niche indications. At the same time, it underscores the potential of Austrian innovation. Since its founding, AOP Health has grown from a start-up into a global provider of therapies for rare diseases and intensive care. Today, the company exports highly specialized therapeutic solutions from Austria to international markets, combining scientific excellence with sustainable growth. In 2025, AOP Health provided more than 300 highly qualified jobs at its Vienna site alone and generated revenue of more than EUR 450 million.

The award comes at a challenging time for the economy. Austria’s exports remain under pressure1, yet internationally successful companies continue to be essential drivers of growth, employment and prosperity. According to the WKO, exports account for more than half of Austria’s economic output2. Against this backdrop, AOP Health exemplifies the kind of innovation that can create global impact from Austria.

30 Years of Research and Development in Vienna

Founded in Austria, AOP Health has grown continuously over the past three decades and is still privately owned and led by its founders. The company bundles all research and development activities at its headquarters in Vienna, from where it manages its international expansion — including its most recent step into the United States. Since establishing its US subsidiary in mid-2025, AOP Health has successfully marketed a self-developed intensive care product in the US. The local team works in close coordination with the Austrian headquarters.

This award is a special recognition of the achievements of our teams and of our journey as an Austrian company with global ambition.

Michael Kindell

We started in Vienna, grew here and continue to invest consistently in research, development and regulatory excellence. The fact that we continue to expand geographically and now reach patients in 55 countries shows the potential of Austrian innovation.

Sustained Growth

AOP Health’s growth is built on a strong economic foundation: 85 percent of the company’s revenue is generated from exports. Export volume rose from EUR 266 million in 2024 to around EUR 398 million in 2025. The company also continued to expand its workforce: the number of employees across the Group grew from 592 to 650, while the headcount in Austria rose from 309 to 332. Since the beginning of 2026, AOP Health has already grown to around 700 employees.

In its international growth, AOP Health relies on resilient European supply chains. The majority of its products are manufactured entirely in Europe; 100 percent are filled and finally packaged in Europe. In this way, the company combines export success with security of supply, quality standards and sustainable business practices.

The WKO Export Award highlights what matters for Austria as a business location: internationally successful companies that keep value creation, expertise and highly qualified jobs in Austria. For us, Vienna is the strategic base for our global activities. The support of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber and the international network of Advantage Austria are important factors in bringing Austrian innovation to the world.
