The Austrian pharmaceutical company AOP Health – a European pioneer in the field of rare diseases – has brought on board a health sector expert, Andreas Steiner (53), with many years of management experience to become CFO. Mr. Steiner brings both specific expertise and strategic foresight from his earlier professional positions in several internationally active pharmaceutical companies and at a public hospital administrator.
He was in charge of the Finance and Administration division at Wellcome Austria Pharma from 1989 to 1995, and was ultimately responsible for the set up and expansion of Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in Austria and Eastern Europe as Director of Finance & Administration (Chief Financial Officer) from 1995 to 2006. The key focus of his activities was on founding and organizing subsidiaries and representative offices, together with the associated challenges regarding financial management, supply chain and IT.
In 2007, he moved from the pharmaceutical industry to Tiroler Landeskrankenanstalten (TILAK) where, as a member of the Executive Board, he learned about the Austrian healthcare system from another perspective, acquiring in-depth knowledge about managing a public organization and through the cooperation with the Medical University.
CEO Dr. Rudolf Widmann:
“Against a backdrop of the rapid international expansion and intensive research work of AOP Health in particular, Andreas Steiner will be responsible for strategic financial management and the optimization of organizational workflows.”
